The Thursday graduation was cramped and did not provide enough seating. Good thing we were the first people there because other’s ended up sitting in the aisles on the stairs and standing in the back. We took up almost two rows with our family there to support Nathan. It was raining when it ended so we grabbed some pictures together and cake and left because the reception was outside with minimal coverings. Some jerk off had the nerve to approach me (Stephanie) as I was walking with the baby afterwards and tell me that I was very rude to have not left with the baby during the graduation. He complained that her crying was very disruptive to others and he was not the only one angry with me. I told him to “suck it.” Who does he think he is….my children sat there for almost three hours making almost no noise and the baby only cried out for less than a minute after she saw daddy walk across the stage and she wanted to go to him. Other than that she had a few moments when she needed new entertainment, but I did my best to keep them quiet. I was there with family, but they had their own kids to watch leaving every time Nancy made a noise would have been even more disruptive because I would be dragging 3 children out with me and climbing over 10 other seats to get out. I will just say that some people need to be punched in the face and he was lucky that the baby was in my arms because I would have. I had such anger in me when he said that….I have spent the last 5 years supporting my husband through school and raising a family. I deserved to be setting in that crowd with my children supporting him through the end. That man needs to think before he speaks. And to anyone reading this don’t you dare ever approach a young woman and scold her for such ridiculous things, she is probably doing the best she can. Moving on, we had given Nathan a party before the graduation so everyone went home afterwards.

The graduation on Friday morning was cold because it had snowed at midnight. We got seats close to the field, but had the spend 10 minutes or more scrapping ice off the benches before we could sit down. It started late because they had to clean all the seats off before the graduates could sit on them. Which was okay because Nathan’s sister Julia got stuck in traffic on the 36 on her way only two exits before the school because a car had over turned. It was a more exciting ceremony with all the people there. Nathan stood with his department as well as with the graduates who were graduation with distinction. Of course I was constantly worried I would miss him doing his thing because my kids kept needing to go to the bathroom. I think I made 4 potty trips and the bathroom was way up the at the top of the level. Good work out I guess.

The ceremony right after was for first generation graduates. Nathan was a part of the Multicultural Affairs scholarship during his time at CU. They served an awesome lunch and did a nice casual ceremony. The graduates gave shout-outs and this was the only time I was recognized. At every ceremony they would applaud the parents but never mention spouses. I am going to write a very offended letter to the school. Come on people you have a FAMILY HOUSING DEPARTMENT!!!! People are married and graduating. At least Nathan knows what I have done.
We are so happy to be done with that and moving on to bigger things. Nathan had applied to Law and Graduate programs, with CU Spanish Master’s and Idaho Law’s programs being the two we have held onto thus far. A final decision has not yet been made because Nathan has been waitlisted with better law programs; namely BYU (UT), Washington (MO), and Chapman (CA). We are hoping and praying for BYU LAW to let us in off the waitlist. It is already the second week in May and I hope we know soon because our lease is up at the end of June.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Nathan AND YOU! Being the wife of a student is tough and we don't get enough recognition! Just reading the story about that man made me furious! Some people...
ReplyDeleteI know right. Wives do not get enough credit in this world. You and Jenny are both great examples of great supporters who do so much. Here is a shout out to both of you and all the other wives out there doing their part "YOU'RE AMAZING."
